Optimize SEO Backend Elements

When it comes to evergreen content like blog posts and articles, meaningful content and a consistent posting cadence are key, but the biggest challenge facing marketers remains search engine ranking. With the increase of AI algorithms scouring content to provide search users with a more personalized experience, it’s becoming harder to rank organically unless you are producing niche content that is not already oversaturated. Keyword optimization for your posts is still important; however, shift your focus away from the content itself and towards the SEO of the backend of your content management system.

The title tags and meta descriptions are opportunities to front-load keywords and provide information, but keep in mind how they display on search engines. Meta descriptions may be the first interaction a user has with your brand, so you’ll want to make a good impression. Consider using a mix of keywords and brand differentiators in this field and treat it like a promotional opportunity for each post.

What is the essence of the post, and why should the user read it?

Consider search intention: Why is someone looking for that information, and how does your blog site provide it in a way that no one else has? Consider how the blog fits into your overall lead generation or retention campaigns. Where does the messaging overlap, where is it consistent, and where can it be better synced?

Modern marketing has become less about providing the information and more about building trust in authorship. In your next SEO audit, measure how well your title tags and meta descriptions provide keywords and phrases that are compelling to your target audiences and authentic to your brand.

Leverage Educational How-To Videos

One video marketing strategy that skyrocketed traffic to my website was creating a series of educational, yet entertaining “How-To” videos related to my niche. By offering valuable content and practical tips, I attracted a dedicated audience that regularly visited my site for more in-depth resources.

Consistently embedding these videos in blog posts and promoting them across social media platforms not only increased my site traffic but also improved engagement and conversions.

Dominate Exact-Match Keywords

A successful marketing strategy that significantly bolstered our website’s traffic was owning the exact match keyword we aimed to rank for.

For example, if your brand caters to UGC creators and you happen to own “UGCcreator.com,” it’s very likely that you’ll gain natural links from articles, TikTok/Instagram posts, and so on.

This strategy is particularly effective when your brand’s website is keyword-optimized, as the majority of your link-building efforts/organic links will be focused on your homepage, thereby fortifying your rankings.

As a result of this strategy, we currently hold the #1 worldwide ranking for the keyword ‘UGC Creator’.

Engage Audiences on Social Media

The one effective marketing strategy that successfully brought traffic to my blog was focusing on social media engagement. I dedicated significant effort to building a strong presence on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, where I could connect directly with gardening enthusiasts and cannabis cultivators.

Consistent posting, sharing valuable content, and actively participating in community discussions significantly increased my visibility. Engaging with followers through comments, direct messages, and live sessions fostered a sense of community and trust, prompting more people to visit the blog.

Over time, this strategy not only boosted traffic but also established a loyal readership eager to learn and grow alongside me.

Pivot to Human-Exclusive Content

In 2024, marketing is a tough game. Never before have we faced a challenge like the AI boom. AI has destroyed what marketers knew to be ‘normal.’ For decades, we stuffed keywords into page optimization and clawed for backlinks. Now, AI can write more content faster and more accurately than any human can keep up with.

Even the best of us, like HubSpot, notice dips in their organic traffic. But there is hope for us, and even yet, we marketers are resilient! By rolling with the punches, we can continue to create great content that reaches our audience; we just have to get creative.

One way my team stays creative now is by pivoting to human-exclusive content mediums. For example, AI can write blog articles, meaning blogging is not a human-exclusive medium. Long-form videos, like those on YouTube, on the other hand, cannot be replicated by AI.

By pivoting to these channels, we separate ourselves from the AI noise. Even if we don’t see the same traffic by volume, we know we are hitting our target audience. We also know that there is no doubt in the viewer’s mind that we are a genuine and reputable source of information on the subject.

Marketing is different than it has ever been, and it will continue to change. Stay tuned, marketers; the future is bright!

Utilize Pinterest for Niche Traffic

I would like to say that Pinterest is not dead! With the right targeting for your niche, Pinterest pins can generate a huge amount of traffic that you can funnel toward your website.

I conduct proper keyword research to find high-traffic keywords that have low competition. I then create boards for each of these keywords and create a steady stream of content to keep each of these boards active.

Create Customer-Driven Content

Without a doubt, the strategy that’s been a game-changer for our blog’s traffic is what I call “customer-driven content marketing.” It’s not just about churning out articles; it’s about creating content that genuinely resonates with our audience.

One day, after yet another brainstorming session where we were all just guessing what our readers might want, I had an epiphany: Why don’t we just ask them? So, we added an open-ended survey to our blog, asking visitors what they wanted to learn about. The responses were eye-opening—they were using terms and asking questions we hadn’t even considered.

For example, a lot of our readers were asking about how to create “user-centric content” to drive engagement. It wasn’t a term we’d been using, but it was clearly on their minds. So, we took their exact words and crafted a series of blog posts, webinars, and guides around this topic.

We didn’t stop there. We used heatmaps to see which sections of our posts were capturing the most attention, and then we doubled down on those elements in future articles. We even watched session recordings to see how people were interacting with our most popular posts—you know, the ones where people stayed on the page the longest. This gave us incredible insights into what truly engages our audience.

The results? Honestly, they blew us away. Not only did our traffic skyrocket, but the quality of that traffic improved dramatically. We were getting more shares, and more backlinks from reputable sites, and even industry newsletters started featuring our content. Some of our posts even ended up in the top search results for those reader-suggested keywords.

But here’s what really gets me excited: our engagement metrics went through the roof. Comments, social shares, time on page—all up. Why? Because we weren’t just driving any traffic; we were attracting the right traffic. People who found exactly what they were looking for, in the language they naturally use.

This experience taught me a powerful lesson: in content marketing, your best ideas often come straight from your audience. Now, every time we plan content, we start by listening to our readers. It’s transformed our blog from just another resource to a go-to destination in our industry.

Attract Listeners with Niche Podcasts

Creating a niche podcast that addresses specific aspects of digital marketing—such as voice-search optimization, influencer partnerships, or sustainable digital practices—can attract a dedicated listener base. By embedding podcast episodes into our blog and sharing insights from these discussions, we can attract traffic from podcast directories as well as organic search.

Additionally, featuring guest speakers from various sectors can extend our reach into their networks, thereby pulling in their followers to our site. Podcasts also offer the dual benefit of deepening engagement with existing customers while attracting new visitors through intriguing, regularly updated content.

Add Value on Relevant Reddit Threads

Strategically posting on Reddit. If you try to post your website links on Reddit willy-nilly, it won’t work. We carefully research subreddits to find threads that are contextually relevant to our business.

We then post replies that add significant value to the audience, and somewhere in these long replies, we pepper in a link to a post on our blog that relates to the question/topic.

Design Informative Infographics

One of the most successful pieces of content we’ve created is our Beef Grading Chart. Creating an easily digestible infographic to break down complex topics is a great way to capture natural backlinks to your site.

It can easily position your brand as an authoritative voice on the subject matter, and who doesn’t love a helpful infographic or other supporting media, like video or statistical graphs, to help the reader visualize the content?

Optimize for Knowledge Graph and Rich Snippets

A few years ago, we crafted and optimized a blog post about augmented reality in marketing. We structured the post to rank well in the Knowledge Graph and utilized schema markup to boost indexability in rich snippets by Google. Within a month or two, the post was generating over 400,000 impressions in search results. Based on the visibility, an editor from The Economist reached out for a quote in an article about augmented reality marketing.

I provided the quote during a phone interview (he was in Spain), and the article further boosted our visibility and credibility as a thought leader in the AR and SEO space. While the article is no longer available, the blog post still performs reasonably well nearly a decade later (https://www.anvilmediainc.com/blog/what-is-augmented-reality-marketing/).

Capitalize on Reddit’s Google Traffic Surge

Reddit is currently experiencing a surge in traffic from Google, making it an ideal time for marketers to tap into this flow. Identify subreddits relevant to your industry and share your link with an engaging message.

If direct links aren’t permitted, don’t worry—you can still mention your website’s name, and people will visit it. This strategy has proven highly effective for our clients, consistently increasing their targeted traffic. As long as Google continues to favor Reddit, this approach will remain fruitful.

Repurpose Content Across Platforms

We identified high-traffic keywords relevant to our audience and created in-depth, valuable blog posts around them. We also repurposed this content into videos, infographics, and social media snippets, which were shared across various platforms.

This multi-channel approach not only improved our search engine rankings but also expanded our reach, driving a significant increase in website traffic and engagement.

Inge Von Aulock, CEO, Top Apps

Craft SEO-Optimized Construction Posts

Creating a series of in-depth, SEO-optimized blog posts tailored to the construction sector successfully brought traffic to our website at Innovate. We focused on topics like “Top 5 Digital Tools for Construction Project Management” and “How to Improve Your Construction Business’s Online Presence.”

By incorporating relevant keywords and offering valuable, actionable insights, we attracted a targeted audience. This strategy led to an 18% increase in organic traffic over three months and significantly boosted our lead generation.

Use Journalistic Keywords for Traffic

One of the most effective strategies for our company has been the use of journalistic keywords in blog posts. For instance, queries like “how many AI companies are there,” “how many AI startups are there,” and “LLM statistics”—they not only generated significant traffic but also brought in backlinks from high-domain-rating sites that reference statistics content.
